Digital Divide: How Our Mobile Technology Van is Empowering NYC
At It Takes A Village Africa, our mission has always been to break down systemic barriers and empower communities through education, opportunity, and support. We know that in today’s digital economy, access to technology is not a luxury—it is a necessity. Yet, for many individuals and families across New York City, the digital divide remains a significant roadblock to educational and economic mobility.
Many underserved communities lack access to reliable technology resources, digital skills training, and clear information about career pathways in the tech sector. This lack of access limits opportunities for workforce readiness and long-term economic growth.
Meeting the Community Where They Are
To address this critical need, we are proud to highlight our Mobile Technology Van Project, a core component of our Mobile Empowerment Initiative (MEP). Our approach is simple but transformative: instead of asking communities to travel to find tech resources, we are bringing the resources directly to them.
The Mobile Technology Van will travel across all five boroughs of New York City, bringing hands-on technology education and digital literacy resources right into our neighborhoods.
Through the mobile van, participants will receive guidance on:
Basic computer skills and internet safety to navigate the digital world with confidence.
Digital tools and job search resources designed to enhance workforce readiness.
Resume development to help community members put their best foot forward.
Pathways to careers in technology to connect youth and adults with long-term educational opportunities.
A Foundation for the Future
By providing these hands-on learning opportunities, we are working to reduce barriers to access to technology. We believe that by equipping youth and adults with essential digital skills, we can create more equitable opportunities for learning, employment, and overall community growth.
When we invest in digital literacy, we aren't just teaching people how to use computers; we are empowering them to advocate for themselves, build sustainable careers, and uplift their neighborhoods.
